On November 20, 2015, folks at The Chapel got together, packed and distributed 50 Blue Bags and Turkey Dinners at a Blue Bag event.
The following is feedback from Lynn McKinley, a member of the The Chapel Church. She has volunteered with Food for Friends on Mobile Food Pantry days.
“The first drop I made was in Fox Lake for Darlene whom I have known for years from the mobile food pantries. She lives alone and is afflicted with spinal pain for years now. She has a heart of gold and I know she is very grateful. The next stop was in Palatine where I briefly visited with Mikel and Olga – a Russian couple who immigrated to the states about a year ago. I just met this couple but love and acceptance is just in their DNA! They come and give hugs at each MFP and give me food in appreciation for our kindness and generosity. English is still rough as well as their subsidized living apartment. The property manager at South Shore Village here in Lake Zurich provides trailer homes (35 units) to families who can’t afford even an apartment or subsided living. Dave noticed last week that one of the families living there had a child search out for some bread from other units. Dave saw the boy walking around the village asking anyone. He thought of us and emailed us a couple of days later. I am so excited to know that joy and happiness will be on those faces sometime later today. And finally, Alpine Automotive, Lake Zurich has participated in this effort for three years now. They know of two families who are deep in poverty as they have donated cars to the them. So I dropped off two meals earlier this afternoon. That leaves one meal left …. I will find the family that it’s meant to be with.”
Thanks to Lynn for providing us with this perspective of her deliveries that day. Check out pictures from this event over at our Facebook page at 2015-Nov Blue Bag Events
