Blessings given of Love and Food filled their Souls.
On Saturday morning July 16, 2016 the sun rose at 5:32 am. The temperature was heading to sunshine filled 84 degrees and hardly a cloud in the sky. It was a perfect day for people to spend leisure time outdoors doing their favorite things.
Instead, 80 Food For Friends and Chapel Church volunteers headed to Chapel church in Lake Zurich and volunteered to serve a sit down brunch to over 500 guests. In the parking lot, Food For Friends provided a Northern Illinois Food Bank truck which provided groceries to over 210 families.
For the children, we provided some fun activities. Outside, we provided one of those fun bouncy houses and had a cotton candy machine. Inside, a local artist volunteered his talents and drew caricatures for more that two hours.
In the Bible the book of Acts verse 20:36 teaches us “it is more blessed to give than receive”. We know that by giving our time and resources, the hearts & souls of the guests were filled with blessings we provided and then they took home bags full of groceries. The volunteers also took away memories and gratitude knowing that by volunteering and giving a slice if their day, they really made a difference in people’s lives.
This serving event meant more than words can describe. Our thanks to the Chapel Church for partnering with Food For Friends to lean into the effort to fight hunger in this troubled world. Thanks also to all those who volunteered and donated resources to make this event a success. We truly met the needs of those who have less that us.
