Warm food and smiles served at West Cook YMCA for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving at the West Cook YMCA in Oak Park has become a tradition. Each year, volunteer and staff work to provide a place for the community to gather and give thanks. This year the tradition continued with a successful Thanksgiving dinner serving event.

2016nov24-west-cook-ymca-01Through our partnership with the Food For Friends, we were able to serve over 70 community members a warm Thanksgiving meal that they might not have had otherwise.   The Thanksgiving meal included all the traditional comfort foods, including greens, vegetables, mashed potatoes, yams, macaroni and cheese, turkey with stuffing and gravy, and rolls plus an array of desserts.

With help from 26 volunteers and staff from both Food for Friends and West Cook YMCA, we partnered to provide more more than just a meal, but a warm and welcoming place for those that had nowhere to go for Thanksgiving.   Many of the community members stayed longer than their meal time enjoying the companionship and conversation around the tables.

Both community members and volunteers all left with smiles on their faces and a heart filled with warmth and joy.
