Summer time is in full swing and the temperature is sizzling but there is no stopping the FOOD FOR FRIENDS Volunteers.
On June 22 Thursday evening a brand new serving event took place in the far northwest town of Antioch. The temperature was hot and in the 90’s but did not slow down partner volunteers from Food For Friends, Chapel Church and Antioch Cross View Church served 100 families a light meal and provided groceries for these families in need. These folks were so grateful and a couple people commented they had not been to church in a while and inquired about coming back to services. The volunteers were of all ages and by the smiles on those serving and the guests leaving with shopping carts filled with food this evening was truly a blessing for everyone involved.
Another special fourth of July serving event was held as a 11:00 am brunch on Saturday July 5th. Food For Friends young leaders Ben Opsahl and Ian Schlueter and four friends served over 75 men a great fourth of July feast at the Ewing Annex Hotel on Clark Street Chicago. It was stated the men seemed very happy to see Ben and Ian with their volunteers walking through the door again. Food For Friends has partnered with Lee and Eddy’s catering to sponsor this quarterly event and share the love of Christ to these men.
Just these volunteers showing up, talking laughing and having a regular relationship has meant a lot to the men. Food For Friends last month provided an new Large Screen HD TV and sound bar for these men to have some additional entertainment. Another young man named Edmund of the Church of God In Christ came and offered to listen and pray with some of the residents. Many men were very grateful and touched to have someone like Edmund there to talk and pray with them. Those that served at the hotel are pleased that trust and friendship, and relationships are being built at this serving event.
And there is more!! Food For Friends has two upcoming events and need volunteers for both.
On Friday evening July 14th we will be serving a big meal at the San Miguel School graduation to the students and their families. Over 300 people will be served a BBQ warm summer time meal and we need 15 volunteers. Please send us an email at email@example.com
Also, on Saturday July 15 Food For Friends will partner with Chapel Church in Lake Zurich to serve another Mobile Food Pantry and sit down brunch to over 100 families. Finally, a big thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers of Food For Friends for making these serving events and all the food possible. God’s blessing to you.
