Blue Bag Event Recap: The Chapel of Lake Zurich

Local student volunteers participate in the annual stuffing of Blue Bags at The Chapel of Lake urich

The Thanksgiving spirit came early on Thursday, November 16 when the student ministry of The Chapel in Lake Zurich distributed Food For Friends Blue Bags complete with Thankgiving dinners to 54 families in Lake Zurich and surrounding Lake County, Illinois.  In partnership with Food for Friends, students from Lake Zurich high schools who attend The Chapel assembled and blessed people with dinners consisting of turkey, stuffing and all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.  The Chapel added some sweet treats the donation of about a hundred bags of candy from Walgreens.

Those who received the Blue Bags left with smiles and hearts warmed by the love of those distributing the bags.   Jessica was one of those who picked up a Blue Bag.  As she did, she sait “My baby has been sick.  I’ve spent the last few days in the emergency room.   We have had a tough go of things and I didn’t know what I was going to do for Thanksgiving.  Thank you.”    That was just one of many similar stories we heard as family after family received their Blue Bag filled with Thanksgiving goodies.

Thanks to all who donated meal items or volunteered time to help distribute these Blue Bags.  For more on this event, check out the pictures from this event on our Facebook photo album “Nov – Chapel of Lake Zurich – Blue Bag Distribution“.  For more information about the Chapel in Lake Zurich, head over to their website at http://chapel.org/campus/lake-zurich/.
