On December 15, 2018, a group of Food For Friends volunteers arrived at San Miguel school in Chicago, eagerly looking forward to serve a meal to the San Miguel students and their families.
The volunteers when right to work setting tables, putting up festive decorations, and organizing the serving line.
Soon the guests started filing into the festive room and before too long, it was time to eat. But first a special prayer was given for the families and volunteers.
The volunteers began to serve food as guests came down the serving line. The volunteers were all smiling and that had a similar effect on the guests!! The delicious meal was catered by our strategic partner Lee ‘N Eddies. It consisted of glazed ham, sliced turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, pasta, jello and dinner rolls.
Approximately 200 meals were served. The guests were very happy and satisfied. Everyone was thankful to receive this gift of food. Many people came up and expressed how thankful they were that we were there serving the community.
A surprise visit from the North Pole, Mr. & Mrs. Clause arrived joyfully and made many guests smile. Candy canes were distributed and pictures were taken with the children.
It was a feel-good Christmas event and a blessing to everyone!
A huge thanks to John Opsahl (Board Member) and Barb Gaona (Lead Volunteer) for organizing and leading this event. We’d also like to thank all the volunteers (the volunteers were amazing!) who gave up part of their Saturday during this busy holiday season to give back to this special community partner that means so much to the Food For Friends efforts.
Happy Holidays to all!
