Food For Friends serves a holiday meal at Deborah’s Place

Christina Chacon, Food For Friends Board Member, serves up a meal to one of the guests at Deborah’s Place

On December 19, 2018, Food For Friends sponsored a holiday meal at Deborah’s Place in Chicago.

Deborah’s Place is a unique organization with a mission of opening doors of opportunity for women who are homeless in Chicago.  The focus is to help homeless women get back on their feet in an environment that provides job readiness training, tutoring and education assistance, health services, case management, counseling and numerous social and life skills activities.  Since 1985,  Deborah’s Place has helped over 4,000 women move from homeless to housed, from surviving to living.

For this serving event, we served about 25 guests of Deborah’s Place.  Food For Friends provided the funds for the meal, which was catered by our strategic partner, Lee N’ Eddies Catering Service.  The meal consisted of rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes w gravy, Mac and cheese, Cesar salad and corn bread…..and CAKE!!!  For dessert there was a large cake decorated for the holiday season.

The article below was submitted by Alexis Keilly, a staff worker at
Deborah’s Place.    For more pictures of the event, see our Facebook Album titled 2018Dec19 Deborahs Place.

Food For Friends…

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for providing such a wonderful holiday meal for our tenants.

I know I can speak for all our Community Based Services staff when I say that we are incredibly grateful that you were able to accommodate our event.

Being able to bring our tenants and staff together to enjoy some holiday merriment is such a blessing, and it means the world to be able to make the women we serve feel loved during a time of year that can be challenging for many.

Wishing you and your team a warm, safe, and very merry holiday season!

With gratitude
