The following recap was sent in by Ken Rasbid, MFP Campus Leader, The Chapel Lake Zurich and Board of Directors, Food For Friends.
Thank you to all who helped make our recent Mobile Food Pantry a success on January 19th.
I am especially grateful for this community’s commitment to serve. Despite heavy snow and freezing temperatures, this volunteer corps dug out their cars and shoveled driveways to brave the elements.
Frankly, I am still in awe of how this team unloaded the entire truck in 15 minutes to bring food inside and then transformed the auditorium into a finely-tuned platform to build grocery bags & boxes.
A few notes to share:
On the surface, it might seem like a low number of meals provided as only ~20 guests were able to make it. The reality is that they needed the food – and their gratitude was significant when they saw The Chapel MFP continued, regardless of the weather.
With love and dedication, another 100 grocery packages were redistributed to Zurich Meadows and our neighbors in the Wauconda community.
Volunteers challenged themselves to deliver food to someone within their circle who was in need. Because of their courage to say “yes”, another 31 families were blessed with groceries that day. Amazing! Way to go Lake Zurich!
Our effort at this event helped us love and care for people in our communities who are in need of food, hope and encouragement! Many families we serve have one working adult but are not bringing enough income home to make ends meet. By providing food, we are helping families from having to make tough choices between paying their rent/mortgage, utility bills, medicine or feeding their families.
Thank you to Food For Friends for sponsoring the beverages & meal that were served at the Mobile Food Pantry, hosted by The Chapel Church of Lake Zurich, IL, and the numerous Food For Friends volunteers.
