The H.E.L.P.S Ministry is a chapel, food pantry and a shelter that serves St. Charles and Elgin providing food and clothing to those in need. Food For Friends has been a strong partner with H.E.L.P.S. for a very long time. We have hosted holiday serving events for many years and a couple of Mobile Food Pantry events.
The H.E.L.P.S pantry café, located at 6n539 Tuscola Avenue in St. Charles has been open for 10 years at this location. Every Thursday from 3-5 pm, the café provides the St. Charles and Elgin community with food from various restaurants. H.E.L.P.S. receives a very limited supply of canned goods, which is also distributed to the families.
This year, Food For Friends is strengthening our partnership with the H.E.L.P.S Ministry in a big way. After month’s of planning, we are announcing a new program we are calling “The H.E.L.P.S. Café / Pantry Assistance Program”.
We have committed to H.E.L.P.S to purchase and deliver canned and dry goods to compliment the pantry on a monthly basis going forward. This new program is only possible because of our wonderful donors that continue to believe in the mission of Food For Friends.
So on Feb 28, 2019, Food For Friends delivered a carload of food and the H.E.L.P.S. café was opened with an abundance of canned and dry goods for distribution for the first month of this partnership.
As you can imagine, the families were ecstatic. They were provided with canned chicken, chili beans, peanut butter, canned corn, rice packets, mayo, etc. The kids were also in for a surprise as there were boxes of cereal.
All families coming through to the pantry that day were so thankful and appreciative for these goods. One of the recipients was heard saying “Thank you so much! These goods are such a treat!” .
After the event, we received the following email from Terina Erb, H.E.L.P.S. coordinator of the monthly Food Pantry. In that email she said the following: “THANK YOU Food For Friends for helping us provide full meals to families at our food pantry! Our food pantry was lacking in dry goods for the families. Now, the families have more food options that we’ll help them stay fed throughout the month. Thank you for how you continuously bless others through food.”
We need your help to staff this new program going forward. While our donors have given us the funds to provide much needed food to the St. Charles and Elgin communities, we need volunteers who are willing to give a few hours of their time. Specifically, we are in need of 1-2 volunteers to assist the H.E.L.P.S Ministry on one Thursday a month from 3-5 pm to distribute goods. If this is something that you are able to commit to, and have an interest to serve, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once again, thank you very much to our donors that continue to believe in our cause.
