On Saturday, April 20, 2019 H.E.L.P.S. Ministry had their annual Easter celebration in St. Charles, IL. Food For Friends provided the meal and volunteers. Food For Friends catered the meal from Lee ‘n Eddies.
The delicious family-style meal, served to approximately 80 guests, consisted of lemon chicken, glazed ham, pasta, meatballs, mashed potatoes, veggies, strawberry crème jello and cake.
I don’t think it could have been a more beautiful day. The weather was perfect and so were the volunteers. The volunteers started to arrive about 11:30. We had more volunteers than expected – thank you Claudia for bringing them! All volunteers were outstanding. They needed minimal direction and went straight to work.
The volunteers did a great job with setting up, decorating, dessert display, and interacting with the guests. Claudia brought decorations and beautiful placemats for the dinner – thanks again Claudia this was very special.
We had some new volunteers that jumped right in to eat a meal with the guests and have great conversations. Dan from Lee n’ Eddie’s Catering assisted with delivery, set up of the food and visited for a while – thank you Dan. In the meantime, Food For Friends volunteer Barb assisted with the car motorcade of picking up those homeless who needed rides for the event– thank you Barb. That might sound boring, however, it’s an essential part of the day where personal conversation sometimes happens during those rides. It’s magical when people come together to bless others – it’s a circle of blessing – you bless them, they are happy which blesses you.
Guests left happy, smiling, with some goodies to go, and very full bellies. Many can’t wait for the Memorial Day Cookout planned for May 27, 2019. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without Food For Friends and their volunteers. Thank you Food For Friends.
