On July 12, 2019, a sunny Friday afternoon, six Food For Friends volunteers arrived at San Miguel eager to serve a meal to the 8th grade graduates and their families.

As they arrived, the parents of the graduates were putting the very final touches on setting up the school gym for the event.  It looked beautiful!!  There was background music playing to get us all in the mood.   Took keep the room cool until the guests arrived, there were  a couple of fans were blowing to circulate air and the lights were turned off.

A special thank you to Sam from Lee ‘n Eddies should be mentioned here.   During the setup process, Sam delivered the hot meal, unloaded everything, set up the serving areas and made certain everything was ready for the volunteers to serve the meal.    Throughout the whole event he was awesome and attentive to the serving areas.  Thanks Sam!

As the guest started to walk into the room, the volunteers were eager to begin serving.  We patiently waited for the room to fill and the blessing of the meal.  Christina Chacon, FFF board member, took a moment to invite the graduates to serve at an upcoming Thanksgiving serving event.  After those announcements, the guests were invited up to get their food.

Approximately 280 guests were served a hot delicious meal catered by Lee ‘n Eddies. The meal consisted of baked lemon chicken, pasta, vegetables, salad, jello, dinner rolls and cake.  In addition to the food, the parents of the graduates prepared authentic Mexican non-alcoholic drinks such as agua de horchata (cinnamon & rice), jamaica (hibiscus), coco (coconut) and naranja (orange).  The drinks were a nice treat that everyone enjoyed.

The graduates, staff and families were very appreciative of the meal, throughout the event, the volunteers were thanked by the guests and teachers.

A special thank you to the wonderful volunteers, Miguel, Brenda, Juan, Julissa, Ivan and Christina that gave up their Friday evening to give back to this special community.  It is not easy giving up a Friday evening, so we are very thankful to these volunteers.
