On Saturday, September 28, Food For Friends sponsored its first lunch for the guests and staff of Abraxas Youth and Family Service Southwood Interventions. One of our partners, H.E.L.P.S. Ministry, joined us in this effort. We had a combined 14 volunteers at this event. It was a wonderful serving event!
The lunch was held at the Abraxas facility in Chicago. As the volunteers arrived, they began their setup of the tables and the food serving line. The tables and set up of the food was a breeze, we had lots of helping hands eager to participate. As the guests arrived, our friends from H.E.L.P.S Ministry greeted them.
The food was catered by Lee ‘N Eddies. The meal consisted of fried chicken, pasta, greens, mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, and brownies. When the food was ready and our guests all seated, we had the blessing of having Pastor Angelo, from H.E.L.P.S. ministry, share a message of HOPE and bless the food.
Then the Avraxas staff members and our volunteers served the food. It was a team effort and a total of 120 plates of food were served. The staff members from Abraxas plated the food and our FFF volunteers served those plates to the seated guests. Those guests smiled back at the volunteers and said thank you as they received their plates.
The team at Abraxas Southwood Interventions were ecstatic with how we ran the event and were very thankful for the meal served. We were told that no other group or organization had provided a meal like today!
Special Thank you to Food For Friends volunteers: Dan, Karen and Christina, H.E.L.P.S. Ministry, and Abraxas staff for making this event possible and a wonderful success.
Because of the generous donations of resources to Food For Friends, for a couple of hours, we were able to connect and give hope to our brothers and sisters currently making the choice to leverage the Abraxas center to improve their life. The smiles on the faces of the guests as they left was truly a blessing and gift to the volunteers. Thank you to Jennifer Moreno and the Abraxas staff for this opportunity.
