Serving others is a Gift

Dear friends,

The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are upon us and for us at Food For Friends this means great opportunity.

I want to take this time and thank you, our volunteers sponsors and leaders, for all you do for Food For Friends. It is because of you and your great heart of giving that we can do God’s good works right here in Chicagoland.

In a world where so much emphasis is put on self serving things, our focus at Food For Friends is on serving other people, the poor, and those with less.   We know that serving others is a gift, our soul is filled with spiritual fullness when we give ourselves and time to serve others.  We all want our lives to matter. It’s the reason we do the things we do. We chase promotions and leadership positions because we want to make a difference. We encourage our kids to go to college, get a good job, and make money, in hopes that they, too, will make a difference.

There’s nothing wrong with wealth or influence, but those things alone won’t change the world and they aren’t what we were made for.  Serving others with our unique talents and skill sets and building Gods kingdom, telling and displaying Jesus to others will make the biggest difference in peoples lives.  We get the most joy and make the biggest difference when we use our God-given talents, gifts and abilities to build the church and serve others.

Serving others is good for your soul. Studies have shown that volunteering is so good for the mind and body that it can ease symptoms of stress and depression. Tapping into our gifts and passions builds self-confidence, energy, and strength.  Serving others can also be the best distraction from our own worries.  So you can see how serving others is a GIFT to those we help and a GIFT to you too!

Again, thank you for a successful serving season in 2019.  For more about Food For Friends, watch our video here and then visit the “About” menu item on the top of this page.  We look forward to continuing our Food For Friends ministry growth in 2020, but we need help and more leaders.  If you think this is your time and you want to help volunteer and lead with us, please contact me www.info@foodforfriends.org.

Finally, we can’t solve all the problems that cause hunger, but we can all Connect and Give Hope!

Happy Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas.
