Event Recap: Blue Bags and Turkeys for Fellowship Housing Moms

As mentioned in our article ” Event Recap: Cristo Rey Thanksgiving Blue Bag Event ” Food For Friends partnered with Pastor Eddie Rivera and the church members at Elgin’s Cristo Rey the Saturday before Thanksgiving in order to assemble Blue Bags and distribute them along with a frozen turkey to needy members of the surrounding communities.

A Fellowship Housing volunteer hands off a Food For Friends Blue Bag and a frozen turkey to one of the single moms in the Fellowship Housing program.

Fellowship Housing (https://www.fhcmoms.org), a long-time partner of Food For Friends, was one of the organizations that received some of the Blue Bags. After the bags were assembled at Cristo Rey, we took 15 of them along with 15 frozen turkeys to Fellowship Housing. There we worked with the Fellowship Housing team to hand out the bags and the turkeys to the moms in the Fellowship Housing program.

Nothing can replaced the feeling in your heart when you hand over a Blue Bag along with turkey to a single mother in need. You see the smile on their face and and know they are so grateful for you giving them the opportunity to create a memorable family holiday meal for their children.

Below is a a note we received from Fellowship Housing earlier this week.

Fellowship Housing is extremely grateful for the generosity and thoughtfulness of Food for Friends. Thanks to Food for Friends the single moms in Fellowship Housing were able to receive everything needed to prepare their Thanksgiving meal. The holidays can definitely cause an additional financial burden, but with the help of generous donors and partners like Food for Friends moms are able to continue to make progress towards their financial goals of paying off debt and saving for their family’s future. One of the moms that received her Thanksgiving meal had just moved in to her apartment and was excited to be able to cook Thanksgiving dinner for her family in her new home.
