Event Recap: West Cook YMCA Thanksgiving Dinner

A gym at the West Cook YMCA turns into a dining hall every Thanksgiving to provide community members who have no where else to go a traditional holiday meal.
Over 30 volunteers served at this event.

Food For Friends and Thanksgiving at the West Cook YMCA  (255 S. Marion St., Oak Park , IL 60302 ) has become a tradition. Each year, volunteer and staff work to provide a place for the community to gather and give thanks.

This year over 70 community members gathered to enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal that included greens, vegetables, mashed potatoes, yams, macaroni and cheese, turkey with stuffing and gravy, and rolls plus an array of desserts.

Thanks to the 30 volunteers and staff from Food for Friends and West Cook YMCA who did did more than just serve the meal. They provided a warm and welcoming place for those that had nowhere to go for Thanksgiving. Many of the community members stayed throughout the entire mealtime enjoying the companionship and conversation around the tables.

A few days after the event, the Food For Friends board received the following note via an email from West Cook YMCA:

Thank you so much for this years meal. It was a memorable event. I am looking forward to next year already! – Paige Clincy, Residence Case Manager – West Cook YMCA

Food For Friends would like to thank the entire team at West Cook YMCA for the opportunity to serve. We would also like to thank our food and catering Lee N Eddies.

A special thank you to Paige Clincy and Barbara Gaona for co-leading the event and making it a memorable one for the Oak Park community.
