Volunteers created a salad table this year from which they filled salad bowls and brought them to the tables for each guest

On Nov. 28, 2019 Food For Friends provided a Thanksgiving meal at the H.E.L.P.S Ministry in St. Charles. The meal was catered by Lee N Eddies , a long time and valued partner.

The Thanksgiving set up involved lots of decorations!! Approximately 30 volunteers attended, they had a great time exquisitely decorating the tables and entrance of the building.

Food for Friends helps make this event a success every year! The meal consisted of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pasta, gravy, salad, meatballs and many desserts. Approximately 100 guests enjoyed the meal.

At this event a volunteer is assigned to each table to carve a turkey. The design is to make the experience more intimate… more like a family meal. So instead of having guests come up for salad, this year we had servers make the salads ahead of time and bring them to the tables. The same with all the drinks…. these were served at the tables rather having the guests get up all the time. These extras were a treat for our guests and helped keep volunteers busy.

We had some repeat volunteers, which was nice. The volunteers were great with set up, serving the meal and the clean up. They even danced along with the guests. Some of the volunteers have already said they want to sign up for Easter.

This year we had some donations that consisted of hotel size soaps, shampoo, conditioner, and other toiletries, scarfs, and mini blankets that could also be used as towels. A few volunteers offered these items to the guests. The guests were very happy for the extra goodies.

Overall event was great! We are so grateful for the partnership and volunteers.
