Event Recap: 12/17/2019 Deborah’s Place Holiday Meal

On Tuesday, December 17, 2019 Food For Friends sponsored a holiday meal at Deborah’s place for the second time in Chicago.

The holiday meal was catered by our strategic partner Lee N Eddies for 50, which consisted of glazed ham, turkey with dressing, mac n cheese, greens, cranberry relish, dinner rolls, gourmet cookies and cupcakes.   Yes, the food was delicious.  The woman and staff from Deborah’s place were so grateful for the meal.

Special thank you to our volunteers Laura and Marty that took the day to participate and serve the woman from Deborahs place. We are blessed to have volunteers who have a passion for serving.

For those of you who are not aware, Deborah’s Place is a unique organization with a mission of opening doors of opportunity for women who are homeless in Chicago.  The focus is to help homeless women get back on their feet in an environment that provides job readiness training, tutoring and education assistance, health services, case management, counseling and numerous social and life skills activities.  Since 1985,  Deborah’s Place has helped over 4,000 women move from homeless to housed, from surviving to living.

The following text below comes from an email that Alexis Keilly, Case Manager, Deborah’s Place sent in, thanking the Board at Food For Friends. For all the photos from this event, see the photo album on Facebook titled 2019-12-17 Deborah’s Place Christmas Meal

Food For Friends,

The event was WONDERFUL! The caterer’s food was absolutely amazing and all of the residents were so appreciative of the fantastic meal provided by Food for Friends. It was truly special for Deborah’s Place staff and residents to be able to share a holiday meal together and celebrate the blessings of the season.

Food for Friends provided a full holiday meal and dessert for 35 Deborah’s Place residents and approximately 10 staff and interns. Laura and Marty served the food with holiday cheer and truly made it a wonderful luncheon for our ladies! I said a few words thanking them & Food for Friends, the residents gave a thank-you and round of applause for their generosity, and Laura led a beautiful prayer before the food was served.

Words cannot describe the gratitude we all feel for your generous contribution to our Christmas/holiday party this year. Your organization made it so special for so many women who may not otherwise have had a Christmas celebration. It was so special. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

With gratitude,

Alexis Keilly, MSW, Deborah’s Place, 2501 W.Washington Suite 401 | Chicago, IL 60612

Reading the email above you can get a sense for the impact that Food For Friends continues to have throughout our communities… another reason to give thanks during this holiday season. With that in mind, we would like to thank all of our sponsors and those who donate to Food For Friends throughout the year.
