We wanted you all to know our strategic partner, the H.E.L.P.S. Ministry, continues to be open during these unprecedented times.
The H.E.L.P.S. Ministry is a chapel, food pantry and shelter that serves St. Charles and Elgin providing food and clothing to those in need. During this crisis, the H.E.L.P.S. Ministry has continued to distribute food to families in need. Food is distributed every Thursday from 5-7 p.m. for anyone who shows up. Typically 15 -20 families are provided with groceries weekly.
In an effort to keep everyone safe, the H.E.L.P.S. volunteers are taking safety measures to properly distribute the food. Before the the event starts, volunteers encourage families that line up to maintain a safe distance. As the event begins, most of the families start with individual prayer then walk through the line of food items to choose what they need for their families. As they walk towards the end of the food line, the next family is invited to begin choosing their food. Everyone keeps their “social distance” from others and this gives all an opportunity to choose their food items in a safe manner. All are understanding, patient, friendly and very grateful as they pick up food items.
To give you a feel for how many families the pantry serves, on April 2nd, there were 22 families that took advantage of the food pantry.
H.E.L.P.S. reports that they continue to get food and meals donated and for that they are very grateful to all those who support the Ministry. In addition to the canned food and dry goods that Food For Friends donates, there are a number of restaurants that continue to provide prepared meals for distribution. All these donations serve to bless and provide hope to those in need.
For those of you feel compelled to assist further, Food For Friends encourages you to support the mission via cash donations Those donations can be mailed to: H.E.L.P.S. Ministry 34w621 Iowa Avenue, St. Charles, Illinois 60174(Note: this is the mailing address and not the location of the food pantry).
Please help us Connect and Give Hope to those in need, let us pray for one another through this uncharted journey.
