As many of you know, Food For Friends has been serving the men at the Ewing Annex Hotel for many years. Even though everyone’s lives have been impacted by COVID-19, we were determined to provide these men with an Easter meal.
Although the deadly virus has caused us to cancel almost every single one of our March and April serving events, we are happy to report the men from the Annex Hotel were provided an Easter meal on Sat. April 11, 2020.
First we called upon our strategic serving partner, Lee N’ Eddies and worked with them to come up with a menu. We decided on a meal consisting of turkey, dressing, beef brisket, mashed potatoes, Hawaiian meatballs, dinner rolls, salad, and assorted desserts.
Then we worked with Mike Bush, manager of Annex hotel, to devise a plan to serve the food once it arrived at the hotel. A couple of men from the hotel volunteered to serve the meal. Once the food was set up in the common area, a limited number of men were invited from each floor to get food and take it back to their rooms. After all men were served, they were invited for seconds in the same manner.
The whole process worked out just as planned. We heard that the men maintained their social distancing while getting their food and that there were many smiles and thank yous being shared as they did so. The men all know us by now and always look forward to our serving events, but even more so now during these difficult circumstances.
