Blessing Families During Easter

Food For Friends and partners blessed over 55 families in need by providing a full Easter meal of side dishes including a fully baked ham. The Easter ham meals were distributed at two locations, St. Charles and Hoffman Estates.

At H.E.L.P.S Ministry 30 families received an Easter ham along with the side dish trimmings.

H.E.L.P.S. Ministry, St. Charles: The H.E.L.P.S. Ministry is a chapel, food pantry and shelter that serves St. Charles and Elgin providing food and clothing to those in need.  On Thursday, April 9, 2020, during the H.E.L.P.S Ministry weekly pantry distribution, the 30 families that participated in the pantry distribution received an Easter gift consisting of an Easter ham and all the side dish trimmings to make a holiday meal for their family.

The families were so happy to receive the Easter meal and very grateful.  These families normally would have attended a Food For Friends Easter meal at H.E.L.P.S.; however, due to COVID-19, the event was canceled. For more photos from this event, see this photo album on Facebook.

We distributed 25 Blue Bags with a ham and a $25 gift card to Fellowship Housing families.

Fellowship Housing, Hoffman Estates: Fellowship Housing, a long-time partner of Food For Friends, also received Easter hams for the mothers and children in their program. On Saturday, April 11, 2020, Food For Friends volunteers Joan Richards and Christina Chacon assembled 25 Blue Bags with a ham and a $25 gift card and handed them out to single mothers. The bags were assembled on the sidewalk for curbside pickup.  We took extra care and caution in the distribution of the bags.  Although we kept a social distance from one another, we were still able to see the smiles and gratitude of the families in the cars.   For more photos from this event, see this photo album on Facebook.

In summary, Food For Friends, with the support of our sponsors and volunteers, provided Easter meals to 55 families in St. Charles, Elgin, Hoffman Estate, Schaumburg and Crystal Lake. Together we have Connected and provided Hope to these families and opportunity to create family memories of an Easter meal during this challenging time.

Below is a copy of a note we received from volunteer Joan Richards, who assisted with the Fellowship Housing event.

I was so blessed to get to work with Christina and Pam today in Hoffman Estates. Even though it was a socially distanced event it was great, helping the moms, seeing the kids. Thank you for this opportunity.  It fed my souls during these bleak, lonely times.   – Joan Richards
