On Saturday, August 22, 2020, Food For Friends partnered with the Life Bridge Community Church and Cristo es la Roca in Wauconda for a Mobile Food Pantry to serve their community at large.
This event was an great success. We served over 200 families through a contact-less drive thru event. We estimate there were about 30-40 volunteers across LifeBridge, The Chapel, FFF and Wauconda Schools.
Many of the cars that came through the drive through contained families with children. These families come from local school districts around Wauconda. Though we could not have long conversations with the those we serve, you could feel the love and hope we were spreading. With everyone wearing face masks you can’t actually see a person’s smile. However, seeing crinkles around the eyes of the people we were serving told us that we were connecting and giving hope.
After the event, we had some food leftover, so we redistributed 75 food allocations to the local senior living home, where the residents were in serious need of additional food resources.
A big thank you to all our volunteers and all our sponsors that make events like this possible through all the uncertainty going on around us. We are blessed to have great partners in our communities and, of course, all those of you who volunteer as part of our Food For Friends family.
