Blue Bag Event: the Chicago Rugby Club

The following email article was submitted by Joe Coppolino. Joe helped organize a volunteer group made up of members from competing teams from the Chicago Rugby Club. They all came together to help serve during this Thanksgiving. Food For Friends thanks Joe and all who volunteered. On Saturday Nov 21, for the first time the Chicago Rugby Club partnered with Food For Friends to assemble and distribute 50 Thanksgiving Blue Bags along with a frozen turkey. It was a great experience for us.

Volunteers from the Chicago Rugby club assembled 50 Blue Bags and distributed them along with a frozen turkeys

We filled the Blue Bags full of Thanksgiving favorites such as yams, stuffing cranberry sauce, boxed mashed potatoes… all the fixin’s a family would need for a meal to accompany a turkey dinner.

Throwing our competitive spirit aside, 15 volunteers from our Dames, Frogs, Silverbacks, Griffins and Condors teams came together to assist with the pick up, assembly and distribution of the Blue Bags and turkeys. The volunteers were happy and eager to assist.

The turkeys and the Blue Bags were distributed in St. Charles to the H.E.L.P.S. Ministry and some special moms who are with Fellowship Housing in Hoffman Estates.

The Chicago Rugby Club would like to say a special thank you to Connie from H.E.L.P.S. Ministry for allowing the volunteers to assemble the Blue Bags at the H.E.L.P.S. café.
