Volunteers from all over Chicago came together with SANTA CLAUS on 12/17/2011 and served a warm meal to 6, 7th and 8 grade children who attend San Miguel and their families at San Miguel School Chicago. “The event was a first time and very heart warming fun day for everyone!” says president of Food For Friends Dan Herzog. “We did not know what to expect or how many families would come, but we served warm food to well over 100 men, women and children. Food For Friends had more that 35 volunteers from around the Chicago area come to this first time event!” The school children also received gifts from santa and school supplies to start the new year.

A young college volunteer is all smiles as she prepares plates of warm Thanksgiving food at the PACIFIC GARDEN MISSION Wednesday evening 11/23/2011 in Chicago. Food For Friends served more that 1000 meals to men, women and children at the Mission from 4:00 p.m. unitl 7:00 p.m.. More that 80 volunteers came from all around the Chicago are to this serving event, says one new volunteer ” God is great, this is so wonderful that Food For Friends does this serving every year, we will be here again next year!”. We had a great time serving over 150 guests in the San Miguel Community on 12/17/2011 including a visit from Santa Claus. Here you see the volunteers ready to serve the warm Christmas lunch including ham, spicy beans, warm rolls, deserts and mixed vegetables. “All the children are so excited and even Santa came to see the little ones” said Christina Chacon, Executive Board Member of Food For Friends. ” We are very blessed to be invited to come to the city with more than 35 volunteers and spend this time with these families” said Bob Bartilotta, also Executive Board member. Food For Friends provides hands on opportunities to serve the poor who are humgry in Chicago.

More than 80 volunteers gather at the end of several hours of serving warm meals to more than 1000 homeless people staying at the Pacific Garden Mission on Wednesday 11/23/211. The menu was traditional Thanksgivng fare including turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing, apple and pumpkin pies. Food For Friends roots started serving thanksgiving meals in 1994 at the Harold Washington College before coming to the mission in 2003 and has served warm meals every Thanksgiving Eve at Pacific Garden Mission for eight consecutive years.
