The Horton Group Supports Food for Friends

For the second consecutive year, The Horton Group and ‘Food For Friends’ partnered up to provide 50 complete Thanksgiving dinners to those in need.  ‘Food For Friends’ secured the 50 – 12 lb. turkeys and The Horton Group associates provided bags filled with side dishes, desserts and dressings to complete the meal.

Horton representatives then participated in the passing out of the collections to the chosen ‘Together We Cope’ families in Tinley Park and surrounding communities.

You may think what you did was a simple gesture. Know that those lives you touched by your generosity, were impacted greatly by your kindness.

‘Food For Friends’ future community outreach opportunities are available throughout the year can be found at www.foodforfriends.org

Paying it Forward: Bay State Milling

BSM employees paying it forward on behalf of Food for Friends

April 26, 2013
This year, Bay State Milling continues the relationship previously shared between T.J. Harkins and Food for Friends. We were given the opportunity, in conjunction with Dan Herzog, to pay forward all of the blessings we have received, and which sometimes go without due acknowledgment.

This partnership is providing Food for Friends with 36 donated turkeys and canned goods and produce from Bay State Milling for some of the less fortunate families and individuals in our local communities. Our collaborative effort hopes to make but a small dent in the hunger that affects our neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, in Chicago as in many cities across the country, some families go to sleep hungry. This is a constant reminder that hunger is real and that every bit we can afford to give back can make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Bay State Milling employees worked together to procure canned goods and produce to combine with the turkeys and donation bags provided by Food for Friends. We spent a brief, fun portion of the afternoon putting together the donation bags and will each distribute them to local churches, families in need, and food banks.

A Thank You From H.E.L.P.S. Ministry

Dear Food for Friends,

As our tradition goes with Food For Friends, we had an amazing time with our guests – some homeless and some down on their luck – the volunteers from Food for Friends did an amazing job.

Mike led them effortlessly and I hardly had to do a thing.I believe this was the most smoothly run event yet. It was a pleasant surprise to see Dan Veles show up and assist us with setting up the food from Lee and Eddies once it arrived.

It’s nice to meet the people from behind the scenes. After the food was done being eaten, a little bit of everyone got out on the dance floor – our guests, some from the ministry, and some of the volunteers (which really helped because they knew the dance steps!)

It was great fun. We look forward to doing it again.

Thank you to Food for Friends – you make a difference in the lives of many.

Sincerely,
H.E.L.P.S. Ministry

H.E.L.P.S. Thanksgiving 2012

Thanksgiving  is something special at HELPS, and that’s the way Angelo their pastor likes it. There is a true family atmosphere where volunteers and guests get a chance to break bread together, spend time getting acquainted and sharing the goodness of our Lord and Savior.

This year food for friends  and its wonderful volunteers has the opportunity to serve over 100 guests. For many of the volunteers it was the highlight of their year.

San Miguel Back of the Yards 2012

San MiguelThere is no greater gift then to be able to help those who are in need that are truly grateful.

This was our experience this year when we delivered 80 thanksgiving meals to San Miguel School at the back of the yards location.

You could just see the the excitement in the eyes of the families that were anxiously waiting for our truck to arrive.

Questions always remains…. Who was truly blessed that day? I say we all were !!!

More than 80 Food For Friends volunteers came together, almost half of the volunteers were first time servers here. Together Food For Friends served over 1000 plates of Turkey dinner complete with all the trimmings to homeless children, women and children in Chicago. A warm heartfelt thanks for all the people who donate to Food For Friends to make this event and the other five meals possible this past November. Food For Friends also gave away hundreds of BLUE BAGS filled with complete Thanksgiving dinner including Frozen Turkeys to under-resourced families all around Chicago and suburbs. Without your generous donations this giving from the heart and spreading Gods love would simple not be possible. If not us, then who?

Horton Group Teams with Food For Friends

The November 14th, “Donate and Denim” day at Horton’s Orland Park and Chicago locations resulted in employees donating 50 full bags of Thanksgiving Dinner sides to accompany the 12 pound turkeys provided by Food For Friends.

On November 19th, Horton representatives (George Daly, Chief Operations Officer; Marie Bastick, Director of Quality Assurance; and Carol Hajek, Human Resources Generalist) passed the turkeys and meal bags to “Together We Cope” families in Tinley Park.
