This Group Photo was taken of all volunteers who served at the Pacific Garden Mission Thanksgiving a warm dinner for the homeless and less fortunate held on 11-21-2012 Thanksgiving Eve. More than 80 Food For Friends volunteers came together, almost half of the volunteers were first time servers here. Together Food For Friends served over 1000 plates of Turkey dinner complete with all the trimmings to homeless children, women and children in Chicago. A warm heartfelt thanks for all the people who donate to Food For Friends to make this event and the other five meals possible this past November. Food For Friends also gave away hundreds of BLUE BAGS filled with complete Thanksgiving dinner including Frozen Turkeys to under-resourced families all around Chicago and suburbs. Without your generous donations this giving from the heart and spreading Gods love would simple not be possible. If not us, then who?
The November 14th, “Donate and Denim” day at Horton’s Orland Park and Chicago locations resulted in employees donating 50 full bags of Thanksgiving Dinner sides to accompany the 12 pound turkeys provided by Food For Friends.
On November 19th, Horton representatives (George Daly, Chief Operations Officer; Marie Bastick, Director of Quality Assurance; and Carol Hajek, Human Resources Generalist) passed the turkeys and meal bags to “Together We Cope” families in Tinley Park.
Together We Cope is located on Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park and serves a diverse group of individuals in the south suburbs of Chicago (Bremen, Orland Park, Palos Heights, Tinley Park). Its clients are provided food, clothing, and/or financial assistance for rent, mortgage and utility bill payments. Its doors are open five days a week and averages sixty clients a day.

Food For Friends held their “Fun With Friends Volunteer Appreciation Night” last Thursday 3-1-2012 at Strike 10 Lanes in Elk Grove. “The event was a huge success” says Dan Herzog president of Food For Friends. “We were pleasantly surprised with a large turnout of volunteers, including families of all ages. The crowd was estimated at more than 175 people who all had a wonderful time. The board of Directors Food For Friends also invited and served some single moms and their children from one of our partners”. The night included two bands, the Rachel McKenzie Band and the Praire Surfers, both bands had great reviews and comments!.. The food was provided by Lee and Eddies Catering of Woodale. We thank all those who serve and donate resources to Food For Friends to feed the needy and less fortunate in Chicago. The next serving opportunity is Easter Dinners on April 7th 2012. We also have immediate serving opportunities to take single moms shopping for food.
