On Monday, September 7, 2020, H.E.L.P.S. Ministry hosted its annual Labor Day cookout for the community of St. Charles and Elgin. This was the second time that Food For Friends partnered with H.E.L.P.S. Ministry for this event.
The H.E.L.P.S. Ministry is a chapel, food pantry and shelter that serve St. Charles and Elgin providing food and clothing to those in need.
The weather was perfect! The volunteers arrived about noon to assist with set up, wiped down tables and start prepping the food to be served. The meal consisted of hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob and other cook out treats. Approximately 70 guests arrived and left throughout the day from 1pm to 6pm.
A big thank you to Dan Thorne, HELPS volunteer, for co-leading this event along with Food For Friends volunteers Helen, Helen’s daughter, Nick, and Miguel.
