On Nov. 26, 2020, Food For Friends sponsored a Thanksgiving Meal for the residents of Annex Hotel.
In an effort to maintain the CDC guidelines in place, the meal was distributed from Pink Taco’s food truck outside. Thankfully the weather cooperated nicely! We had two Food For Friends volunteers to distribute the meal along with the staff from Pink Taco.
In order to minimize the risk of the men and volunteers, Mike Bush (of Ewing Annex Hotel), coordinated the men. They were invited to come down to the street level in small groups in order to pick up the Thanksgiving meal. The Thanksgiving meal consisted of turkey, ham, green beans, corn, and cranberry.
The men were grateful for the hot meal and the smiles. The volunteers had a great time! One tenant surprised them with a personal painting as a gift! Brian Mackenzie, representing the Pink Taco team said they would hang it in the food truck.
The Ewing Annex Hotel, 430 South Clark in Chicago, is a low-income hotel for men. Most of the residents are homeless men with little or no money, or jobs. Food For Friends has been serving at the Ewing Annex Hotel for a number of years and we always get a good reception when we serve.
A special thank you are in order to Food For Friend volunteers Leslie Henstock and Derrick Trumbly and to Brian Mackenzie and the rest of the team at Pink Taco.
Blessings to everyone!!
