The following email came from the Molly Carey Poarch, Global and US Head of Communications – Orphazyme (US). This was a new company that approached us this year with a desire to give back to the Chicago community during Thanksgiving. Food For Friends provided 50 Turkeys and Blue Bags for this food distribution event. Thanks to Molly for the email and the pictures. For all the pictures from this event, go to our album on Facebook titled 2020-11-17 Oraphazyme US
A group of Orphazyme U.S. employees gathered (with masks on and in a socially distant way… given COVID-19 restrictions!) on November 17, 2020, in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We were successful in distributing Thanksgiving turkeys and Blue Bags to two special organizations in Chicago: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Chicago and the Blessed Sacrament Youth Center.
We all wanted to give back to our Chicago community and this was a perfect way to do that.
The Orphazyme name may be new to Chicago, but many of our team members are native Chicagoans who are well connected and devoted members of the community. Despite a challenging year for us all, we are deeply thankful for the support of our families, friends and communities.
For this event, we partnered with Food for Friends, who supplied us with 50 frozen turkeys and 50 Blue Bags. We filled the Blue Bags with all items that families could use to create the traditional side dishes that would accompany a proper Thanksgiving meal.
With the Blue Bags all filled, we then set out to distribute them to two organizations near and dear to us: Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Chicago and the Blessed Sacrament Youth Center. Each organization received 25 turkeys and 25 Blue Bags. Those organizations then went about the work of distributing them to families that they knew were in special need of a gift of food during this holiday season.
We were honored to give back and help brighten this Thanksgiving for families across the greater Chicago.
Thanksgiving is an important holiday as families come together to reflect on the year and reconnect on what matters most. This is perhaps more meaningful than ever in this challenging year. We were grateful to take the time to pause and remind ourselves of the many reasons we have to be thankful. Together, our passion for improving lives extends well beyond the disease areas we hope to serve. It’s a personal commitment we all share to making a difference.
Thank you to Food For Friends and everyone who participates in giving to this important program.
