Chicago Migrant Luncheon at La Iglesia

On Sunday, March 24th, 2024 Food For Friends partnered with La Iglesia in Mundelein to serve 120 migrants. La Iglesia has been bussing migrants from a Chicago hotel and a Chicago College to their church every Sunday. At La Iglesia, children, which make up the majority of the guests, attend Sunday school while their families attend Sunday church service. In addition, families are invited to their community closet that provides the families with free clothing and toys. After service, they serve a meal to the migrants with support from church volunteers.

We had the blessing to support them with setting up, preparing a meal, serving the meal, and cleaning up. Volunteers gloved up and got right to cooking. Our volunteers cut 20 rotisserie chickens into individual pieces and then plated the chicken with a side of delicious rice and beans.

The guests we served and the congregation continue to show their gratitude toward Food For Friends donors, leaders, and volunteers. These events would not be possible without your continued support and your heart to give back.

A big thank you to our incredible volunteers that always show up with a positive attitude and a heart to serve in any manner. We appreciate you!
