Chicago Migrants Luncheon at La Iglesia

On February 18, 2024, Food for Friends partnered with La Iglesia: Comunidad Cristiana to serve 130 migrants. La Iglesia, based in Mundelein, Illinois, has been busing migrants from the American Islamic College and a hotel in Chicago to their Sunday church service. After the service, church volunteers serve a small meal to the migrants from donations made by their congregation. As the number of migrants increased, the church had a great need for volunteers and food donations, we were able to suffice both of those needs this Sunday.

We had a delicious meal catered by Lee N' Eddies and 9 volunteers which served with a big smile and a heart to give back in any way. The guests we were serving shared that the food was delicious and how grateful they were to receive a warm and filling meal. The children asked for seconds and even thirds of the delicious chicken, mostaccioli, arepas, rice, and beans. The brownies served for dessert were also a big hit.

As an influx of migrants arrive to Chicago and the surrounding areas, we are blessed to be able to serve them. Thank you to our volunteers that trust us and gift us their time and to our donors that continue to believe in our mission.

Thank you to La Iglesia, for welcoming us with joyous and kind hearts and thank you to the migrants for allowing us to serve you a meal.

We hope to see you at one of our upcoming events!

Blessings!
